This is an introduction to the basics of screen printing on fabric using hand cut stencils, producing printed small to medium sized textile artworks using 1-3 base colours and the colour mixes achievable through over-printing techniques.
The course is led by experienced teacher and designer maker Liz Ryan. Liz's objectives are to demystify the screen printing process, providing the participant with a thorough understanding of the principles and techniques of screen printing on fabric and enough knowledge and confidence to continue to develop their skills independently.
Each participant will make a series of tester textile prints and a larger more complete final print that can stand as an artwork in itself or, at a later date, be incorporated into a wide variety of handmade craft projects, such as cushion covers, bags, garments etc. This makes screen printing a valuable skill for any designer maker who deals with textiles, surface pattern etc., and an exciting and immediate skill for those new to printmaking.
The course is suitable for the more experienced craftsperson / maker /artist wanting to learn a new skill or for the absolute beginner.
